Bagley III is the first Kings rookie with three straight double-doubles since DeMarcus Cousins had three in a row from Mar. 2 to Mar. 7, 2011. His three-game streak with a double-double is tied for the second most by a rookie this season as DeAndre Ayton has the most with five double-doubles in a row from Dec. 15 to Dec. 23, 2018.
The Sacramento Kings extend their three-game win streak as they beat the San Antonio Spurs, 127-112, to also push their home win streak to seven games. The Kings victory snapped the Spurs five-game overall winning streak as the Kings defeat San Antonio for the second straight time, their longest overall win streak against the Spurs since beating them in four straight games from Apr. 12, 2001 to Feb. 12, 2002. Their two-game home winning streak against the Spurs is also their longest since winning two in a row at home versus San Antonio from Mar. 14, 2004 to Jan. 2, 2005.
Sacramento would lead by four at the halftime break, 63-59 and take a 12-point lead heading into the final 12 minutes as they led, 98-86. The Spurs would then go on an 8-2 run to cut the Kings lead to as little as six up until the 9:44 mark in the third quarter, their lowest deficit since the score was 86-80 with 3:18 remaining in the third quarter. ““It’s exciting to be able go out there and play a game like that at home, a great team like that. We just came out and we were playing together – moving the ball and making the right basketball plays. Whenever you’re playing like that, it’s always exciting and fun.””
DeMar DeRozan totaled a team-high 24 points while LaMarcus Aldridge recorded 22 points and nine rebounds in the loss for San Antonio.
For a second straight game, the Kings held their opponent to under .300 percent from beyond the arc as the Spurs were 9-of-32 (.281) from behind the three-point line. The Kings have held their opponents to less than .300 percent from three-point range in 18 games this season and are 14-4 in those instances. Those 14 wins when holding their opponent to under .300 percent from beyond the arc is tied for the third most by a team this season.
“They got the crowd involved; they got in transition and took advantage of us in transition. The crowd got
into it and they didn’t slow down after that.”
““I think we’ve gotten back to playing the way that we were playing at the beginning of the season. Marvin [Bagley III] is really coming in to his own, he’s been playing extremely well. Out of today, we had a lot of guys contributing. We always have a lot of different guys in double figure scoring. I just think we’re able to
attack you in so many different ways.””
